Emergence in discussion @ TEDx CSM
The newly opened Kings Cross Central Saint Martins, College of Art & Design campus hosted the TEDx CSM with a list of speakers who took on the theme of 'Emergence'. The day was packed with inspirational speakers including Michael Wolff from Wolff Olins , who spoke of 'Behaviours and Emergence'. Michael shared with the audience some personal stories about how people will always remember the way you make them feel (more than what you say or do) and the importance of inclusivity and empathy in design work. Tom Hulme from IDEO, spoke about designing through emergence and bought to light 4 key points: 'accelerate evolution', 'consider constraints', 'serendipity favours the connected',...'and grab the opportunity' (more indepth explanations can be found here). Julie Jenson Bennett from Precipice Design, discussed emergence through the concept of time and the The Honey Club introduced their fabulous socially engaging project for bee keeping set up in central London. Lunchtime was also an opportunity to gather thoughts and strike more discussion, this time in the form of graphic visual recordings on the wall with a little help from Ije Nwokorie and Marina Willer - looked great as a piece of 'wall thoughts' at the end.
